2E Active Maths

This week we have been continuing our studies into positions, directions and turns. The children have been using the vocabulary associated with giving directions, such as: left, right, up, down, turn clockwise, turn anti-clockwise, forward, etc. This wee's focus has been mainly on clockwise and anti-clockwise.

We went out into the playground and drew big treasure maps on the ground using chalk. The children then took it in turns to direct each other around the map using the appropriate vocabulary. They enjoyed this activity very much and their learning was greatly enhanced by the physical nature of the activity. Once again, they worked very well in teams and helped each other to understand the directions.

We then moved onto programming the beebots with a sequence of actions to get them to navigate through mazes that the children made. Again the children had to use their knowledge of turning to try to visualise which way to send the beebot before it was set down at the start of the course.
