2C Ernest Shackleton, Animal Habitats, Cake and Assessments!

Noah and William matching words that rhyme!

2C learning about the amazing adventures of Ernest Shackleton and how he battled to cross Antarctica. The children enjoyed learning about his trials and tribulations whilst trying to write sentences to describe photos linking to his famous expedition. They also enjoyed discussing how many Dojo points for 'perseverance' Mr Chave would award Ernest for not giving up!

 The class learnt about different types of animal habitats such as polar, forest, savannah, ocean, rainforest and desert. They discussed the various physical differences between the habitats, which suited specific animals better and why. They then worked to create a poster displaying the information about one of them.

2B Shape Poems

Today 2B had a day filled with Animal Poetry and Shape Poems! The class started the day by exploring and recording different adjectives to describe their animal of choice. Many of the children chose sea creatures - linking their ideas to our work on Oceans. The class were then asked to consider their senses and record ideas about their animal concentrating on...

1) what they look like (for example from Senne's work: [about a shark] 'blood pouring from it's razor sharp teeth')
2) what they sound like (either what the animal can hear or how the animal sounds as it moves. For example from Eva's work 'the snake slithered over crunching leaves.')
3) what they feel like, (for example from Mao's work: 'a rabbits tale as fluffy as candyfloss')
4) what they can taste, (for example from Roy's work: 'the dragon's spiky teeth crunching fishes bones')
5) what they smell like/can smell (for example from Andy's work 'the dragon smells like a smokey bonfire.')

Once these ideas were recorded the children were taught how to put their ideas into a poem. They were reminded that poems have shorter lines and the focus is on LOTS of ADJECTIVES! We also talked about cutting unnecessary words from the lines so that the final piece sounds more like a poem and less like an information piece of writing. After some practise and sharing of ideas the children recorded their poems on scrap paper. The final step was to turn the writing into a shape poem. A selection of the final poems have been included below for you to see.

Class 2A getting arty

As part of our theme topic oceans, Class 2A have helped us to created huge sea characters for our year group display. Here are some photos of them...

2A recorders

Class 2A have been getting musical,  learning to play the recorder with Miss Rowan. They have been learning how to play different notes and put them together to play a song. I have heard them play and I must say I am very impressed. The children are allowed to bring their recorders home so please encourage them to practice. I hope you enjoy listening to their delightful tunes. Here are some pictures of them at work...

Year 2 (beginner) can write Chinese nicely

Year 2 (beginner) learnt how to write the Chinese characters nicely. They know the structure of the Chinese characters and can follow Chinense characters writing rules. They can manage the strock order of the words. Good job!

Year 2 learning Mandarin with moving their body

Year 2 learnt Mandarin on the topic of fruits. All pupils are very enthusiastic to learn, to explore, to try and to practise. We learnt many fruits in Chinese.
