2B - Fantasy Worlds and Telling the Time

Eva and Naomi were very excited about how heavy our box of 'Coins for Kids' is getting! Thank you so much to all those who have brought coins in already.
We started the morning with some tricky word problems and past SATS questions. The children are becoming really good at these and enjoy the game of guessing which sum the question is asking them to do (multiplying, dividing, subtracting or adding.)

We continued our topic of 'Fantasy Stories' by exploring various settings and imagining characters, worlds and stories. We used our linking skills to connect some of these settings together and the children displayed fantastic creativity in their answers.

After this we began to focus on characters and character description. We watched a short clip from the fantasy story 'The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe' before creating a character description for Mr Tumnus the faun.

The children had fun using our letter collection to piece together words using their knowledge of Phonics.

We also started learning how to tell the time today....but unfortunately the children were so absorbed with the work that we forgot to take pictures!  They were taught about both hands on the clock, how many hours in a day, minutes in an hour and seconds in a minute there are. We practised reading and telling the time to o'clock and half past the hour. It would be fantastic if you could continue this at home or in real life situations - it's wonderful to see that some of the children are beginning to wear watches and take an interest in this.
