2B - Giant, flying turtles!

Yesterday 2B began to develop their story writing skills by writing an introduction to their fantasy story. This was based on a short video clip showing an old man in a floating pirate ship, stranded in the clouds. The man is very surprised when he sees a group of flying sea turtles passing by. He lassos one of the turtles who then manages to pull his broken ship a short way through the sky before the rope snaps. Stranded again the man has to make a desperate decision when the last of the turtles passes by and bravely abandons his ship and jumps onto the turtles back. The turtles fly off into the distance taking the man on an adventure to an unknown fantasy land.....

The children collected adjectives and similes whilst watching the video clip and tried to concentrate on using their senses....imagining how the man would have felt, what the man could feel with his hands as well as what he could see, hear and smell.

Once the children had collected their ideas on rough paper they began to write their story introductions in their books....pausing their writing at the point where the man sees the fantasy land (each one will be different as the children are creating their own fantasy land.)

Elliot did a particularly fantastic job with his writing and the class really enjoyed listening to his story.

The children have really enjoyed taking it in turns to read to the class after lunch...it has been a pleasure to see them bringing in their own books from home and sharing their love of reading! Today was Senne's turn and he did an excellent job.

The children also enjoyed their independent reading time - making good use of our comfy reading corner...

We finished the game with an Inter-House Dodge ball competition. Congratulations to Sandringham for winning this time!
