2B Timelines, Glossaries, Odd and Even numbers and Number Bonds

The children have enjoyed completing two different group activities today in English and History. In History we were learning about timelines; how we use them and how to make one. The class looked at various examples before applying it to our topic work on Explorers. In groups the children were asked to order explorers on their own timeline, read the fact boxes for each one, select a favourite and then present it to the class. They grasped the concept of timelines really quickly and I was impressed by the amount of information they were able to retain whilst presenting their chosen explorer to the class.

In English we continued to learn about non-fiction writing by making glossaries. The children were asked to use their ipads to research ocean themed words which we had discussed and collected together. At the end of the lesson we looked at each group's finished glossary and children were individually chosen to explain to the rest of the class what the words meant/were.

In Maths we did some revision work on Number Bonds to 10 and 100 before moving onto Odd and Even numbers. Some of the children used a Venn Diagram to sort their numbers into odd/even and greater/less than. Please continue to practise Number Bonds with the children at home as these are vital for more complicated addition sums as well as understanding Place Value and how numbers fit together.

The class wished Andy a very Happy Birthday last week when he turned 7!
