This week the children have enjoyed doing some research about sea creatures, using the Year 2 iPads to search on Google. They learned that Wikipedia, while full of excellent information, is possibly not the best place to go, as the information is a little too difficult to access for children their age. We added the phrase 'KS1' to our fish (sharks KS1, for instance) and then had to select appropriate websites to use to find relevant and easily accessible information.
The children wrote notes in their English books about such things as: what the creature eats, how it moves, how big it is, where it lives, etc. On Friday, they organised their notes into a factfile - something like a Top Trumps card.
Next week: the children will make information pages about the creature they have researched to be put together into a class book all about 'Creatures of the Sea'.
In maths this week, the children have been using number lines to subtract and have also had fun on 'NO SUBTRACTION DAY', when they had to do subtraction without subtraction, i.e. by adding on, or counting up from the lower number to the higher number.
