2B - Easter Bonnets, Andrew and Chloe's Birthdays, Coins for Kids, International Day, First Day Back
The class has a busy first day back! They started with some excellent recounts of their Easter Holidays - now using the more 'grown up' fully lined books in preparation for Year 3. The children remembered to use many of the writing techniques that they have been taught so far this year and I was really pleased with their efforts. This was followed by an extensive Maths lesson exploring Measure and Length. The children learnt about mm, cm and m. They measured a drawing of a house and then measured around each other. We discussed which activity was trickier and why - the house was smaller and so was easier; the lines of the children's outlines were curved and so harder to measure; the lines of the house were shorter and so could be measured with a ruler whereas the lines of the body outline were too long....Vielle explained her excellent idea of using string to measure the curved lines and we explored this together. An excellent start to the topic of Measure, Capacity and Weight! In the afternoon the children listened to a story by Julia Donaldson - we will be looking at a variety of books written by the same author this term - called 'Room on the Broom.' The class were then split into small groups and asked to create role plays. They did this extremely sensibly, showing excellent team work and creative thinking! It was too tricky to choose a winner and so all of the children received 1 House Point for their efforts.
