2B - Measuring, Julia Donaldson, Plants and Seeds.

2B have thoroughly enjoyed our Maths topic on 'Measuring' and so far have learnt how to measure length and weight. Today we introduced capacity and how this is measured in litres and millilitres. I will be testing the children tomorrow morning to see if they can remember these facts:
- the definition of capacity,
- what we measure capacity in,
- how many millilitres there are in 1 litre.

In Science we began to look at 'Plants and Seeds'. We talked about the different parts of a plant, what it needs to survive, what a seed needs to grow and the importance of the leaves and roots. We even discussed oxygen/carbon dioxide and why plants are so important for maintaining a healthy environment. Following this the class designed their own plants and labelled them accordingly.

In English we continued our theme of looking at books by the same author (Julia Donaldson) by reading 'The Gruffalo's Child.' We talked in depth about the story and how the characters might have been feeling at different points in the book. The class were taught new words such as sly, cunning, anxious, nervous and petrified. I'll be asking them what each of these words mean tomorrow to see if they can remember! The children played a comprehension board game whereby they had to answer questions about the story and characters in order to move forwards. They recorded these in their English books considering their sentence structure carefully: capital letters and full stops, adjectives and connectives.
