2B Planning a castle

The children have continued to learn about instruction writing today with the focus this week being on designing and making their own castles. This links directly to our topic work and will allow the children to review castle features in their designs. As a class we discussed the different materials that could be used to make our castles and came up with some very imaginative suggestions including toothpicks for the flag pole and sweetie wrappers for the flags. The children are very excited to make their models later in the week and bring them home to show you.

In Maths today we started to learn about repeated addition and multiplication. This was a new concept for many of the children so we did a lot of work together as a class first. It would be fantastic if you could continue this learning with them at home - we will be focusing on learning the 2s, 5s and 10 times tables in Year 2.

To finish the day, and linking nicely with our earlier designing work in English, the children shared their knowledge of banquets and created their own menu for a poor and rich persons medieval feast. It left us all feeling very hungry!
