Class 2A showing super listening skills and following instructions

This week in maths we have been learning about money. We have done work around recognising the different coins and making totals. The children started to recognise the different coins quickly and could apply this knowledge to making different amounts. The children had a very interesting conversation about where money comes from, where people keep their money and why it is important to learn about money in school. The children spoke about their real life experiences of money and enjoyed sharing times they have used money with their peers.

In literacy we have started a new topic - Instructions. So far we have focused on following instructions and giving instructions verbally. The children have really enjoyed playing instructional games for example Simon Says. They have been very creative, working in small groups to create different shapes with their bodies where one member of the group gives them instructions to follow.

Here are some of the shapes they made...

In addition to this, we have finished our first class book, The Twits. The children really enjoyed the story and listed carefully following the plot and story line. The children could identify the good and bad characters and made simple predictions about what might happen next.

Our new class book is The Magic Finger, written by Roald Dahl. The children were given a choice on which book they wanted to read next and we did a tally chart to record their votes. The Magic Finger came out on top with 18 votes!! Please ask them about what we have read so far and who the different characters are, I'm sure they would be happy to tell you.
